Day 121

Day 121

Giant Robot is almost complete. I am ashamed to be a part of the greatest engineering feat on Earth. I wonder if George Devol will roll over in his grave. In the 1950’s, Devol envisioned robots being used on a wide scale basis. The robots he willed into reality were constructed to work at tasks tirelessly for 40,000 hours and never need a sick day, mental health day or a vacation. It was amazing what this man did; turning robots from a whimsical notion of a possible future to reality. Devol helped fuse the efforts of so many people into one functioning machine. I feel like I am defiling one of my idols.

I have no idea how many people the sea creature, Drakalon the thugs call it, has killed. I am not sure how to spell the name of the monster. It is too ugly to have a name if you ask me. Yet, now it is bringing in pieces of Japanese and Malconian Navy vessels. The Gargoyles are expecting 2 other robots to arrive shortly. One of the two is an orbiting defense platform, some kind of orb like design. Palador said it will most likely spend its time in low orbit, annihilating little uprisings here on the planet surface. The second one is being pulled from a battle field on some distant planet. If it is what I am guessing, from the battle footage I have seen, it is a bipedal design like Giant Robot. The same height and so on. Yet there are only eyes and no face. Rather than the Pharaoh like head dress, it will have horns like a great bull. Per Palador, this robot can launch its horns independently in an attack. The limbs detach and can fly into attack or linger in an area then attack. The horns, once used in an attack, can replenish themselves several times. Apparently the horns are made of the same material as Giant Robot’s hand missiles. A feature I find ingenious to this horned robot’s make-up is that it will, if the command link is broken, retreat to safety and await further orders.

I remember in my youth when certain pay television stations held battles between robots. Only these were only robots because the producers at the stations called them that. Actually, they were nothing more than radio controlled bulldozers and forklifts. On occasion, one would show up with a hammer of some sort for smashing blows to destroy the control mechanisms of their opponent. Wouldn’t you know it; I had this vision of entering a multi-legged robot with a low and shifting center of gravity. I imagined it with a retractable protective arm with a shield on the end. It would put up the shield and deflect blows. The legs would cancel out the bulldozer and forklift devices by simply moving counter to their attacks. Finally, it would have an air compressor weapon for striking its opponents with the force of a small car. Guess what. One day someone actually entered such a robot. I want you to guess who did that.
